ETEC 590 - Graduating Project
Designing, synthesizing, creating and presenting my MET learning in an e-portfolio
ETEC 590 requirements include to "synthesize and apply knowledge and theories gained from courses taken in the MET program". The criteria, as detailed on the course page on the MET website includes:
This graduating project gives me time to reflect and engage deeply in the transformation. It allows time to examine who I am becoming, my relationships with others and my views of the world, as shaped by these MET renovations. Returning to the plans, looking over the renovations and examining the work accomplished is, in itself, a renovation.
- Be integrative, through requiring generation/application of ideas across courses.
- Generate research findings and/or link theory/research to practice.
- Demonstrate an individual’s learning.
- Result in a concrete product that demonstrates linkages and applications.
- Be of personal use to the student and considered educationally valuable by an audience of professional peers.

Immediate ValueA meaningful activity described and my experience of it.

The electronic portfolio (eP) has been an area of interest since ETEC 500. My literature review and research proposal focused on the use of ePs as a reflective tool, used within a collaborative community of inquiry. Renovating courses at the Faculty of Education and my own course design has resulted from this MET learning. The process of creating an eP of my own provides insights and experiences I can share with students. It will provide opportunities to model the potential for this tool to colleagues.
|
Potential ValueSpecific resource from this activity and why it is useful
|
Specific resources created through the completion of this eP (webpages, screen casts, presentations, concept maps) will provide unique opportunities to showcase, model and collaborate with others on the research, theory and practice of creating ePs. Reviewing materials and research conducted by Helen Barrett provides a framework for further renovation at the personal and organizational level. The potential of applying the value creation story framework to my own course design, the learning community within the faculty of education, or even the learning resources within the organization is yet to be examined - this renovation project may be the most challenging yet!
|
Applied ValueHow I used this resource in my practice and what it has enabled.
|
Moon states "deepening of reflective activity depends partly on developing awareness of the constructed nature of knowledge - understanding" (2001, p. 12) The applied value of this eP comes from my own constructed understanding of how I learn, my own knowledge building framework and understanding of connections between teaching and learning. This eP will become a model for others who would like to explore reflective practices, concepts and evaluation of ePs in education. Using the value creation framework within the eP provides exposure to this tool in personal and organizational evaluation practices. It will enable others to examine a value creation story framework for personal and organizational improvement planning.
|
Realized ValuePersonal and organizational affect and success resulting from the activity and artifacts.

Since this e-portfolio and the underlying learning and application have not been realized (and are in transition) this section will be reviewed in the future.
